Ingredients

- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1½ tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- Mix dry ingredients. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs, food coloring, vanilla. Mix well.
- Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk.
- Mix baking soda and vinegar separately, fold into batter.
- Fill liners â…” full. Bake 18-20 minutes.
- Cool completely before frosting.
For Frosting:
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
- Pipe onto cooled cupcakes.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for more intense color
- Room temperature ingredients ensure better mixing
