Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Thinly slice the russet potatoes.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat; add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
- In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the creamy mixture, and half of the sautéed onions. Repeat the layers.
- Top with Gruyère cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
