Ingredients
  

Beans
  • 1 cup dried navy beans soaked overnight
Sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
Aromatics
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Method
 

Prepare the Beans
  1. Rinse and soak the navy beans overnight in plenty of water. Drain and set aside.
Cook the Beans
  1. In a large pot, cover the soaked beans with fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour until beans are tender. Drain and set aside.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix well.
Combine and Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). In a baking dish, combine the cooked beans, chopped onion, minced garlic, and sauce. Stir to combine.
  2. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 2 hours. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until bubbly and thickened.

Notes

These baked beans can be made ahead of time and reheated. They also freeze well for later use.
