Method
 

Prepare the Oven and Pans
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter and dust with flour.
Mixing the Batter
  1. Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
Incorporate Dry Ingredients
  1. Sift together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl, then gradually fold this mixture into the wet ingredients until no streaks of flour remain.

  1. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and springy to the touch.
